Backstory

Woo! (exclamation point required! 🙂 ) – is a song – it’s a song I wrote because I was trying to write a song that was about one of the topics on a list of topics on that licensing professionals are always looking for – in this case, songs about it being a brand new day.

I was actually being facetious at first. I set up a beat and I kept saying “hey motherfucker hey, it’s a goddamn brand new motherfuckin day” (I kept saying hey because the people who decide stuff out there were liking a lot of “gang vocals” – heys and hos and stuff. Which, to tell you the truth, I kinda like that too LOL.That was kind of catchy to me, so I recorded that, and then I thought well I’ll need a clean version, so I put mamalama and big ol’ and everlovin. If you hear a song of mine, and I say mamalama, it probably means I wrote it originally as motherfucker. If you hear big ol’, well I probably wrote it as goddamn, and if you hear everlovin, well …motherfuckin. It’s true, I’m a swearer. I’m like a pirate. But that doesn’t work so well for most scenarios musically. So…there you go!

My friends Larry and Javier helped a lot with feeding back on this song – it had a bunch of different arrangements before we settled on this one. One morning I kept google chatting Larry and Facebooking Javier – I would send a version, they would say a bunch of stuff, I would do everything they said, send another, they’d say more – it was actually pretty amazing, that remote collaboration. I was in Albuquerque, Larry was in Houston, and Javier was in Corpus Christi!

Now then – the video, I consulted NO ONE! HA! I just sat there filming myself writing the lyrics on this chalkboard, then when I edited, I sped that stuff up to fit in the time I actually sing the line. VOILA! The logo at the top of this page is a scan of the chalkboard where I wrote “Woo!”. 🙂

Eventually I wasn’t being facetious, by the way. Once I tried to write the verses, I realized that I actually DID feel like hey man it’s a brand new day! Let’s go forward! WOO! Funny how repeating something over and over can affect you. It makes me want to NOT sing dark depressing songs or angry songs over and over as much. I’m kind of getting into saying good things over and over and ending up feeling that way. Good, I mean. I like feeling good. Don’t you?Ahem – credits:
